July 20th (still), Moro Rock-Updated with Videos!!!

Today is our anniversary (there was some confusion because I posted yesterday that it was our anniversary, but I figured that my east coast fans would check the blog this morning, not at midnight last night...) and we're getting ready to go for dinner...sans Samuel! My friend Rachon is coming over to play with him for a couple of hours.

This will be the only other post with the 3 of us in it, so we're continuing on Sunday and will come back to Saturday tomorrow...

Moro Rock is another place that every park visitor will see, so we made a beeline there early Sunday morning (I think we left the hotel around 7am) and were the first ones in the parking lot...unless you count this little guy...

With Sam securly in the backpack, we set out to climb the 300 ft to the tip of Moro Rock...a hike estimated to take 1 hour!

The amazing view of the Great Divide (mountain range)...

The crazy road, with about 100 switch backs, allowing cars and even motor homes to climb this mountain range...not quite the way the indigunious people did it, but hey...

If you want to learn more about how the amazing roadway was built back in the day, click on this picture to enlarge it...

Everyone learns that vegetation changes with climat...dessert plants differ from rain forest plants, right? But what about the dramatic landscape differences between 1000 ft and 4000 ft...the plant life is totally different! Click here, to learn a little more...

I really like the cool sunlight pics, but, as a proud wife and mother, this is my favorite pic of this trip...

Tripod self-portraits are never quite as good :(

Sam enjoyed the big wow wee of the mountains (blog devotees may recall that Sam referred, on his own, to the Grand Canyon as the big wow wee)...in fact, the vertical difference of this valley to the mountain peaks is just slightly less than the depth of the Grand Canyon!

I've read that if you can find magical light, you shoot whatever is in way...in this case, I think the distant mountains and closer sequioas almost rival the streams of sunlight thru the clouds...almost!

Looking down into the valley from which we started...the 2nd last picture in this post shows the 'opposite' picture looking up from the valley...

Adam really liked this view, looking down on the giant trees which tower over all others in this giant forest...

The geology of Moro Rock...

The history of people at Moro Rock...

Sam doing a little climbing himself...

A sequoia near the Giant Forest Museum...

Moro Rock from Hospital Rocks (more on this location later), about 8000 ft below the Rock...
