July 19th, The Fallen Monarche and General Grant

Yup, more trees! I'm almost done, I promise. Only one more post will follow showing random pics from around the parks (Sequoia NP, Sequoia National Monument, Kings Canyon NP).

Us in the parking lot...

Look how the trees tower over the cars!

The trail map

Sam about to enter "the Fallen Monarche," a tree hollowed out by wild fire a couple of centuries ago...

Sam decided that he wanted Dadda to go with him!

Sam was a little timid, as you can see from his face.

Cool pic

Same pic again

And now for your history lesson :)

This picture really got to me...after reading the above description, I was just overwhelmed that in the time before my Grammie was even born, this log was used at a home, then a work camp and it hasn't changed. I tought, I've got to bring Grammie here, she'd love this! (I guess that thought was still with me that night, when I woke up in tears from a dream and the exact feeling of when I watched my Grammie pass from this world. Oh well, she's much too busy in heaven to marvel at some tree!) (On another side note, this log was first used by white settlers back around the same time as my Mom and Wayne's 'new' house was built...1860!!!)

A little history

Adam's co-workers teased him that he'd be arrested for climbing a sequoia...he had to prove them wrong :)
