So, we thought that we'd hit the mountains to show Mike some snow (I know what you're thinking, he didn't travel all this way to see snow in California!). But it was the trip that would fit our schedule (which seems very busy these days!)...BUT...
Since SoCal is green (we've had record rainfall, so our dirt piles (aka. the hills surrounding our city) are green and beautiful. Great for our moods, bad for giving Mike the true taste of this desolate land. So, we passed the exit to the mountains and headed for Palm Springs...surely the desert would look like a desert!!!
The only downside to our spontinatiety was the fact that we were dressed for, well, the mountains (you know, snow, cold wind, etc.) and we ended up in the high desert (the opposite of cold...it was 20ish C's there today and we roasted!).
Since we picked Mike up in Palm Springs in the dark, I was excited for him to see the wind farm (literally thousands, maybe hundreds, of windmills...largley unused thanks to a deal the gov has with oil companies...or so my environmentally minded friends tell me)...I told him he'd be moderately-whelmed (somewhere between overwhelmed and slightly impressed)...and he was...
So as I was driving, I kept seeing things I'd like to photograph, but I resisted the urge. Unfortunately, all self-control was used up by the time we reached the park entrance, so you have ALOT of pics to look at today :)
Some desert homes...
