April 12th, Happy Easter

We went to church..it was beyond packed. Even getting there 15 mins early, we barely got a seat in the overflow seating (the sanctury was packed!)...it was so hard to keep Sam seated in the courtyard area, a place where he usually runs. We couldn't hear the singing and there was no homoly because there were two baptisms. Womp womp.

We did an egg hunt for Sam. It was hard work for Adam and me, trying to guide Sam in a fun way and trying to keep him on task...you can see in the videos below (PS-the videos are in the opposite order, so start at the bottom and work your way up).

We want to keep Christian holidays Christian (ie. limit the amount of secular influence)...so we're not doing the Easter bunny or Santa. At Christmas, we told Sam that we give each other gifts to remind us of the best gift that God gave us: Jesus. At Easter, we *tried* to explain that we look for surprises to remember the best surprise that the women found when they looked in Jesus's grave: that He has risen and is alive! I'd like to move away from hiding eggs per say and hide other things like small wrapped gifts (I'm not sure on the origins of Easter eggs)...just a side note :)

Thank you Nannie and Grampy D and Nana for the Easter packages. And thanks Dad for the car repair.

There was a couple of breaks during the egg hunt...once Sam found an egg in a shovel. Apparently he really liked that idea and decided that all the eggs he'd collected to that point needed to go into the shovel...you can see him pouring them back into his basket. Once we moved inside, Sam found an egg in the back of his bike...again, ALL the eggs he had went into the back of the bike...and, yup, there's photos of that, too :)

The grand finale to the hunt was a Kinder Surprise from Nannie, which he ate all of (half before nap and half after supper)...which reminds me, Sam ate a real supper tonight! He ate ham and mashed potatoes and carrots and peas and corn!!! Embarassingly enough, this is the first real supper he's ever eaten. He's had everything cut up finely in rice, but I finally took a clue from Jan and Shawn (the proud parents of an excellent 3.5 year old who eats amazingly well) who give Nathan everything separate (like meat, potatoes, veg) and he sits and eats. So, we did that last week, but with fruit, noodles or rice and meat. Two weeks ago, we set the law down and gave Sam time out everytime he got up from the table before supper was done (now maybe every 4 or 5 suppers he'll get a time out). Tonight, like I said, he ate super well and stayed up at the table just about the whole time (he is allowed quick trips down to get a toy or two...I know, another bad habit to break).
