June 1st, The Fundy Trail at St. Martin's

We set off for a day adventure to see the Atlantic Ocean. A little history at the Interpretation Center+ a little hike+ a little picnic and beach play+ a little stream crossing (burr!)+ a little visit in a big sea cave = lots of fun!!!

The surf was so pretty against the rocks! I'm not sure if I uploaded this video, but Sam kept calling this the 'dirty ocean' Ha, ha!

Sam spotted some boats pretty near to shore and was convinced that one was ours. We had a picnic lunch then Sam and Nannie played with some rocks (with Sam cuddled into a towel to keep warm), while I played around with my polarizer and a near by waterfall...

Sam clibed up the wood stairs in his 'feet' (barefeet) and ended up with a splinter that was just about as long as his baby toe!

Some pretty waterfall shots...This falls, Fuller Falls, empties into a little raven that we crossed in the above set of photos, and is connected to the bay...

We visited the Echo Caves...I thought they'd be a HUGE hit, since Sam loves to shout "ECHO!!!" But it was pretty chilly. With so much water in the streams flowing into the ocean (like we saw with the waterfalls), Nannie and Mommy had to roll up our pant legs and portage across, with Sam itching to walk across himself (but it was too deep and the current was too strong), then it was super windy! I think we'll have to go back in the summer :) Since Nannie had taken her shoes off to cross the water, Sam insisted on taking of his once we reached the other side. He found a puddle, in a cave, in the shade, of ocean water...burrrrrr!

Fundy boasts the highest tides in the world (Fundy is a bay, which acts like a funnel for the Atlantic Ocean, so tidal effects are magnified in the narrow inlet)...here's the tide difference we saw yesterday at the Echo Caves in St. Martin's...

More before and afters (first taken at 10:15 am, a few hours after high tide) (second taken at 3:00 pm, two hours after low tide)...

You are making me home sick and NB isn't home to me! We'll have to start saving our money and one day come for a visit!

That was a big adventure with Nannie, Sam. Did you throw some rocks in the water? Nana

The tide difference is nuts! Imagine if you didn't know and you decided to take a nap at low tide...bad idea.
