After months of waiting (I only read Twilight, the first of the series in October), Twilight The Movie opened today at midnight. In consideration of our children's need for mothers not zombies, the Mom's in my group who are addicted to Twilight decided we should NOT go to the midnight showing (selfless, aren't we :) ). So, instead, we got our hubby's home in the middle of the day (well, middle of the afternoon) and 'abandoned' them for 5 or so hours for indulge the 14 year old girl hiding inside each of us. We preplanned like only a set of obsessed housewives can, stood at the front of a line for 2 hours (the lucky ones whose husbands got off work the earliest), rushed into the theatre and quickly staked out our group of seats. We realized then that our plan to go to what would likely be one of the least popular movie times had paid off...

So for the last couple of weeks, we've been posting on our Mom's club message board links to different Twilight the Movie clips and pictures. We've been trying to adjust the ideals in our heads to the faces of the actors and actresses in the movie...a tough thing to do. We've been trying to put aside all preconceptions that would hinder us from appreciating this reportably low budget flick. I decided in advance that I was going to think that the movie was great :)
My friend Katie's mom and sister (you can see their pictures on my portfolio...the mom is the mom in the HUGE family photo and Julie is Katie's younger sister) went to the midnight showing early Friday morning. They provided us with the information we needed to enjoy the movie: enjoy the books as books and enjoy the movie as the movie.
So, with that in mind, I watched and tried not to judge. The dialogue seemed a little choppy, but I think that was my immagination as my mind jumped from converstion to converstion, setting to setting, as the character's words were pieced from various parts of the book (editting, had to be expected in a 2 hour movie). The important parts were all there...the skin, the eyes and, in theory, their movements were consistant with those in the book. I was hoping for more of the chemistry that sold me on the novel, but oh well.
So, I'd recommend the movie whether or not you've read the book. In many ways, I'd say its better to see the movie first. I'm hoping that they gross enough on this movie to afford a second film + some acting lessons :P
